Short version: RIPE reads a photo and tells you what it can see. It is a helpful second opinion, not a guarantee, and the final check is always yours. Use the app and you agree to what is below.
The one thing to understand before anything else: a camera cannot judge firmness, smell, weight, or anything under the skin. RIPE is built to say so, but it can still be wrong about what it can see. Never rely on it alone to decide whether food is safe to eat.
What RIPE is
RIPE is a mobile app that looks at a photo of fresh produce and gives an opinion on ripeness, plus guidance on what to check by hand. It also lets you keep a list of what you bought and get reminders about it.
It is provided as an aid to your own judgment. It is not professional advice of any kind, and it is not a food safety tool.
What RIPE does not promise
- Accuracy. The app uses AI vision models that get things wrong. We publish our known misses rather than hide them, but you should expect errors.
- Food safety. RIPE cannot detect spoilage, contamination, mould inside a fruit, or anything that would make food unsafe. If something looks, smells, or feels wrong, throw it out regardless of what the app said.
- Health or dietary advice. Nothing in the app is medical or nutritional advice. If you have an allergy or a medical condition, do not use RIPE to make decisions about it.
- Exact timing. Ripeness guidance is given as ranges because ranges are honest. A range is an estimate, not a commitment.
You are responsible for what you buy and what you eat. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for produce that was not what the app suggested, for money spent on it, or for any indirect loss arising from using the app.
Your account
You can use most of RIPE without an account. If you create one, keep your password to yourself and tell us promptly if you think someone else has it.
You can delete your account and its data at any time from Settings in the app, or from this page. Deletion is permanent.
We may suspend or close an account that is being used to break these terms, to abuse the service, or to harm other people.
Paid subscriptions
- RIPE offers optional paid subscriptions. The plans and prices available to you are shown in the app before you buy, and those are the ones that apply.
- Billing is handled by Google Play, not by us. Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel it.
- Cancel any time in the Google Play Store under Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep what you paid for until the period ends.
- Refunds follow Google Play's refund policy, because Google took the payment. We will help you with a request, but we cannot issue the refund ourselves.
- If we change a price, we will tell you in the app before it affects you. A price you are already paying does not change underneath you.
Using the app fairly
Please do not resell access, scrape the service, try to break or overload it, or use it to build a competing product from our output. Ordinary personal and household use is exactly what it is for.
Photos you take stay yours. You give us only what we need to run the scan, which is described in the privacy policy.
Availability
We try to keep RIPE working, but it depends on services we do not control, including AI providers and app stores. It may be unavailable, and features may change or be removed. We will not remove something you paid for without telling you.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change in a way that matters, we will say so in the app rather than quietly editing this page.
